Apple confirms Mac Mini shortage
ALSO: How to generate editable infographics with AI
Welcome back, Superhuman. Apple just confirmed a long-time rumor: demand for AI is driving a shortage of Mac minis. It just bumped up the base price for Mac minis — and iPhones might be next.

TODAY IN AI
1. Apple confirms AI agent demand is driving a Mac mini shortage: On Apple’s latest earnings call, outgoing CEO Tim Cook warned that the Mac mini and Mac Studio will likely be in short supply for months as developers snap them up to run local AI agents. Apple has already raised the Mac mini's starting price to $799 — a preview of what’s likely coming for the iPhone.
2. Meta opens its ad ecosystem to third-party AI tools: Meta Ads AI Connectors are rolling out in open beta, letting advertisers plug ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI assistants directly into their Meta ad accounts. Meta says its business AI tools now facilitate 10 million conversations per week, up from 1 million at the start of the year.
3. Two SaaS leaders post breakout quarters: Atlassian announced revenue of $1.8B, up 32% YoY, while Twilio posted revenue of $1.4B — its fastest growth in three years at 20% YoY. Both companies credited AI for the surge, contradicting the narrative that vibecoded software will replace legacy SaaS companies. Read the full breakdown here.

FROM THE FRONTIER
If an AI chatbot were transported to 1930 — could it replicate humanity’s discoveries?

Made with Midjourney
Living in the past. A new AI model has never heard of the computer, internet, or cell phone — and that’s not a design flaw. Researchers trained talkie exclusively on pre-1931 content with two goals: to study past societies, and to see if AI can rediscover humanity’s greatest breakthroughs.
Meet the vintage models. Talkie joins a small but growing group of “vintage models” trained exclusively on historical text. Mr. Chatterbox is a Victorian-era model built on 28,000 British Library books from 1837 to 1899. Machina Mirabilis goes back even further, trained on 2,600 pre-1900 physics texts.
A glimpse into history. Vintage LLMs have no knowledge of future events, offering a window into how past societies thought. They essentially let researchers step back in time to interact with someone from another era, and could unlock a deeper question about AI itself.
Testing for AGI. Researchers also plan to test whether vintage models can reason their way to genuinely new ideas — a focal point of AI research. If a model trained only on 1930s knowledge can independently invent the computer, that's a strong signal that artificial general intelligence (AGI) may have arrived.

Preserve the core composition and identifiable elements of the original image, but reinterpret everything in a simplified, cartoonish crayon style. The final result should feel adorable, colorful, playful, innocent, and full of childlike personality, with a warm, imperfect, hand-drawn look that clearly resembles a real kid's crayon artwork brought to life, avoiding any polished digital painting appearance and strictly maintaining visible wax crayon textures and natural imperfections throughout.Whenever you’re ready to take the next step
