1. Apple’s first AI features are finally here: Apple Intelligence is exiting beta and landing on newer iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Meanwhile, the company announced a new iMac “supercharged” with an M4 chip, which lets you perform intensive tasks, like running small models or editing videos with AI-powered software. This is just the start of what Apple promises will be a busy week of announcements.

The details:

• You’ll need at least an iPhone 15 Pro to access the new features on your phone

• The new UI will let you summarize, proofread, and rewrite text across apps

• Siri also gets a major upgrade: It’ll “follow along when users stumble over their words” — and can help you find settings with simple prompts

• A Photos update lets users remove unwanted elements from images — or find months-old photos by typing a description of what’s in them

• More features — like a fan-favorite emoji generator — will be available starting in December

2. Mysterious new image model jumps to the top of the charts: Social media users are trying to figure out who’s behind an elusive new image generator called “red_panda,” which just leaped past the competition in the industry-standard Artificial Analysis benchmark. It performed 40 points ahead of the former leader, Black Forest Labs’ Flux 1.1 Pro, while being 100 times faster than OpenAI’s DALL-E 3.

• Go to ToonCrafter on Hugging Face’s website.

• Now upload a starting keyframe image in “Input Image 1” and an ending frame in “Input Image 2”.

• Write your prompt to describe the action you want to animate.

• You can also customize other settings such as Random Seed, ETA, FPS, etc.

• Click on generate and you'll get your short animated video ready.

• Download it and share it with your friends.

Meta is building its own AI-powered search feature

Where do you go to find something online? For most people, there used to be one obvious answer. But AI has totally scrambled that equation, with OpenAI, Perplexity, and even Reddit getting in on the game. Now, The Information reports Meta could be the next major tech company to jump on the bandwagon.

The reason: Meta currently relies on Microsoft and Alphabet to power its search capabilities, but there’s no telling when those companies might pull the plug and say “Sorry, you’re on your own.”

Besides, the move could end up benefiting Meta’s billions of users in the long-run, offering a more integrated and conversational search experience across WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. The company has been collecting data from across the web for at least eight months to prepare for the rumored feature.
