But employees aren’t exactly celebrating— CTO Andrew Bosworth reportedly stated that morale is near its lowest point in his 20 years at the company, due to several rounds of layoffs and restructuring.
3. Google’s first Gemini-powered smart speaker opens pre-orders: The Google Home Speaker, powered by Gemini, will better understand natural language requests, including conversational requests and multistep commands. Claude Fable’s plug is still pulled — and the situation has sent an unspoken message

Pulling the plug. Anthropic’s Claude Fable and Mythos went live for just days before the government suspended them, citing national security. The two groups are working on a solution, but the situation has sent a clear unspoken message — relying on a single model is becoming increasingly risky.
Staying prepared. As the industry evolves, it’s best to assume that access to your favorite model could shift without warning. Creating a handoff document can help you stay prepared to switch providers without slowing down. Just prompt your AI: "Write a handoff document I can use to work successfully with another LLM. Include all stored memories, preferred workflows, and context you've learned.” Then feed that document to the next LLM to keep working smoothly.
Avoiding model lock-in. Want to go one step further? Consider downloading open-weight models, like Google’s Gemma family, to your own machine. Once downloaded, no lab or government can revoke your access. Other benefits: your data stays local, and you skip the monthly bills that come with frontier models.
The bottom line. This is one of the first times that a government has pulled a live, public AI model — but it likely won’t be the last. Keeping a handoff document ready or downloading open-weight models will make sure you don’t miss a beat as the landscape continues to change.
