FROM THE FRONTIER

Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft flex their AI muscles

Made with Midjourney

Big Tech delivers. In a rapid-fire window, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft gave updates almost simultaneously. The consensus: Cloud revenue is soaring and AI-linked income is finally starting to materialize. The catch — capital expenditures are still climbing fast.

Alphabet flexes. The search giant posted $109B in revenue, up 22% YoY, its fastest growth since 2022. Its main headline was Google Cloud, which grew 63% to $20B and now carries a $460B backlog. CEO Sundar Pichai made it clear: “Our AI investments and full stack approach are lighting up every part of the business.”

AWS wins. Amazon announced $181B in revenue with 28% AWS growth — the cloud unit's fastest in 15 quarters. Andy Jassy noted that Amazon's chips business cleared a $20B run rate growing triple digits, and Bedrock processed more tokens in Q1 alone than in all prior years combined. Q1 capital expenditures hit $44B, up from $25B a year ago.

Meta beats. Mark Zuckerberg's ad machine delivered $56B in revenue — up 33% YoY, the company's fastest growth since 2021. Meta also raised 2026 capex guidance to a high of $145B, citing higher component pricing and data center costs.

Copilot lifts off. Microsoft hit $82B in revenue, up 18% YoY, primarily driven by Azure growth. Microsoft 365 Copilot crossed 20 million paid seats, up from 15 million just a quarter ago, and the company’s total AI annualized revenue now stands at $37B, up 123% YoY.
