ChatGPT launches study mode for students
ALSO: How to automate your Excel sheets with AI agents

Welcome back, Superhuman. How fast things change. Last year, using AI for your school assignments or job interviews would have gotten you suspended or fired. Yesterday, ChatGPT announced a new “study mode“ for students, and Meta is set to let candidates use AI during interviews. Yesterday’s “cheating” is fast becoming tomorrow’s must-have skillset, as institutions are forced to adapt to the new reality of AI.
Also Today: Learn how to automate your Excel sheets with an AI agent, and get the latest prompts, headlines, and trending social posts.
TODAY IN AI
1. Meta opens the door to AI assistants in job interviews: The social media giant is breaking from a long-standing industry standard by allowing job candidates to use AI assistants during coding interviews. The company framed the policy as more representative of real working conditions and, ironically, a way to make "LLM-based cheating less effective". It’s a major shift in how the company will evaluate candidates going forward, and could potentially emerge as the new industry norm in talent recruitment.
2. ChatGPT’s new study mode won’t just give you the answer: OpenAI has launched a new study mode for ChatGPT that will help students learn by working through problems step-by-step instead of just handing them the answers. The feature offers interactive prompts with Socratic questioning and hints to guide students through their queries. It, then, organizes responses into digestible sections and quizzes you along the way. The tool is available now for Free, Plus, Pro, and Team users.
3. Zuckerberg’s AI recruiting campaign rages on: More than a dozen staffers at former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati’s startup Thinking Machines Lab have reportedly declined Meta offers in the range of $200M-500M, with one employee reportedly turning down an eye-watering $1B+ over 4 years. Meanwhile, Apple seems to have lost multimodal expert Bowen Zhang to the Llama maker — the fourth Apple AI researcher to jump ship to Meta in a month.

FROM THE FRONTIER
AI is automating entire tasks and jobs. What’s next?

Made with Midjourney
The most popular AI slogan on social media from last year went something like this: AI won’t replace you, someone using AI will. Less than a year later, we're moving rapidly past the "AI as assistant" phase that the optimists had hoped for and heading towards something that looks more like wholesale job replacement. Even the CEOs of top AI companies are now conceding that major disruptions to the labor market seem likely.
But are mass layoffs inevitable? Two competing views offer compelling alternatives:
AI as the great equalizer. In the first view, AI doesn’t just reduce the cost of automation for companies — it lowers the cost of automation for everyone. Just as the internet made it easy for anyone to start an online business, AI could unleash a wave of “solo companies,“ that previously required teams of employees, but can now be spun up by a single person with a team of AI “agents“ that can execute complex jobs for a tiny fraction of the cost. With the cost of labor no longer a barrier to entry, small-scale entrepreneurship could become a viable career path for society at scale.
AI as the great multiplier. The second view accepts that AI will automate most jobs, but act as leverage for the top 10% of workers. These top performers, according to this view, will be able to produce 10x or 100x more with the help of AI. The logic here is straightforward: if only the top performers survive automation, then finding your domain of excellence is the only viable career strategy.
That might seem like an implausible career strategy. After all, just how many domains are there to pursue? But consider this: To a farmer or factory worker in the 1850s, careers like “podcast host,“ “sustainability consultant,“ or “brand strategist“ may have seemed equally implausible and absurd as career niches one could pursue in the future. As technology automates previously valuable economic tasks, it may open a new frontier of careers.
