TODAY IN AI
1. Amazon unveils Nova Premier: The tech giant just rolled out its most powerful AI model yet, which handles text, images, and videos on their Bedrock platform and can process a whopping 1 million tokens at once. Though it's not quite matching some competitors' models in all areas, Nova Premier really shines when it comes to retrieving knowledge and understanding visuals. Amazon's suggesting its best use might actually be as a "teacher" for smaller models—essentially passing on its abilities to more streamlined packages for specific tasks—fitting right into their growing AI game plan.
2. China paves way for R2 with flurry of new LLMs: DeepSeek is handing out an appetizer while developers brace for its next frontier model. Prover-V2 can solve college-level math theorems with state-of-the-art performance. Meanwhile, smartphone and EV maker Xiaomi threw its hat in the ring with an open-source reasoning model called MiMo, which outperforms even OpenAI’s o1-mini across some benchmarks. And hot off the heels of Qwen 3, Alibaba is back with Qwen 2.5-Omni-3B — an LLM so efficient it can run on consumer PCs.
3. New app wants to help you vibe code sites that actually look good: Y Combinator-backed Variant seems like an AI-infused cross between Canva, Bolt, and Figma. But it’s also experimenting with some new ideas. You can iterate based on a prompt, sketch, or screenshot. But if you’re drawing a blank, an “explore” tool lets you see different possibilities and pick the one that’s speaking to you. Plus, every edit sends you off on a new branch, so you never lose track of your progress. (You can sign up for early access here).

FROM THE FRONTIER
AI could inspire your next career change

Created with Google’s ImageFX.
While exact figures are hard to pin down, it’s safe to say the average American changes careers at least once, and often many times throughout their life. And for all the talk about LLMs taking jobs, they might actually be fueling job growth in another way: By helping workers explore career paths they hadn’t previously considered.
Salesforce uses a tool called Career Connect to analyze employees’ job histories and show them new opportunities based on their skills. LinkedIn Learning offers a Next Role Explorer (found in the My Career Journey tab). And Google’s Career Dreamer is a good no-cost alternative.
Prompting Tips:
Tell your chatbot to act as a career coach: It’ll ask you things like “What does your ideal workday look like?” and “What do you value most right now?” to push you in the right direction.
Use AI to translate your resume and cover letter into the language/lingo of your new field. For example, “content strategist” in one field might be called “editorial director” in another.
If you’re hesitant to make the leap, ask for a list of small career experiments: “Give me five side projects or volunteer ideas to test my interest in [career field].
