Claude's new connections

ALSO: How to prepare for meetings with Claude AI

Welcome back, Superhuman. Just as we’re starting to get the hang of MCP (using a server to connect your chatbot to an outside app), Anthropic might have just made the whole process obsolete with an even better technique. And: Another science-focused agent just dropped — but this time, you don’t have to be a scientist to try it.

Today’s Insights

  • Claude’s research upgrade, mini models, and AI scientists

  • Why ‘decentralized’ models might be the future

  • Tutorial: How to prepare for meetings with Claude

TODAY IN AI

See all of Claude’s new features in action. Source: Anthropic

1. It just got much easier to connect Claude to third-party apps: Integrations helps Claude access and analyze data from your favorite platforms, including Zapier, Square, and Cloudflare. While setting up an MCP requires a lot of technical expertise, this new approach does all the hard parts for you over the web. Plus, a new “advanced” research mode (for subscribers only) gives Claude access to your data and lets the chatbot scour the web for up to 45 minutes to deliver more detailed reports.

2. Microsoft’s new Phi 4 spinoffs pack a punch: The most powerful variant, Phi 4-reasoning-plus, weighs in at just 14B parameters and manages to nearly match DeepSeek’s R1 on the AIME 2025 test, despite the latter being much larger at 671B parameters. Meanwhile, the non-profit research lab Ai2 dared to go even smaller. Its new Olmo 2 1B allegedly outperforms similarly-sized LLMs from Google, Alibaba, and Meta while being efficient enough to run on a laptop.

3. This startup wants to help you make discoveries with its new ‘AI scientist’: With backing from former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, FutureHouse just launched the “first publicly available super-intelligent scientific agents” to the masses. Three of those agents do what you’d expect — delving into scientific literature to answer in-depth research questions. But the real wild card is Phoenix, an agent that can help researchers design entirely new chemistry experiments from scratch. Watch this video overview to learn more — or try it out here.

Scaling Security in the Age of AI: Lessons from Vanta, Wiz, & Modo Labs

Join Vanta, Wiz, and Modo Labs on May 8th for a live fireside chat to explore AI’s impact on scaling security programs–what to watch out for, how to adapt, where to adopt AI, and what to focus on next.

This interactive discussion will include insights into top-of-mind issues, actionable steps to strengthen your program, and more.

FROM THE FRONTIER

Your computer could be part of the ‘world’s first user-owned’ LLM

SF’s Vana and Germany’s Flower Labs are working together on an ambitious, first-of-its-kind experiment. You’d think being thousands of miles apart would make it that much harder, but in this case, the distance might be the point.

Here’s the plan: Instead of using a massive data center or rented cloud servers to build their next model, they’re stringing together computers from all over the world to act as nodes in one massive chain. Each user will offer up a bit of compute and data in exchange for access to the shared model.

There are some interesting advantages to this ‘decentralized’ approach:

  • Participants get to choose which personal information they’d like to contribute as training data

  • It could eventually be more efficient: If you want to scale up, you just need to add more computers to the chain

  • It could even the playing field, giving smaller countries and less-resourced startups the chance to compete with the big guns

Their first model, Collective-1, is relatively small at just 7B parameters. And there are a lot of questions about just how practical this approach will be, including whether it would actually cut costs. Still, by the end of the year, the researchers hope to scale up to a 100B-parameter model, putting them within arm’s length of today’s frontier LLMs.

What’s trending on socials today

🍝 Menu Translator: OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy just vibe-coded an app called MenuGen that translates menu items into AI-generated images so you can see what you’re ordering. Here’s how he turned it into a “real product that people can sign up for.”

✍️ Prompting Hack: Software engineer Sean Godecke discovered that if you tell ChatGPT your work was actually written by someone else, it can trick the chatbot into giving you more honest feedback.

📜 Gone But Not Forgotten: GPT-4 is officially headed to the annals of history. Sam Altman waved goodbye to the model that “kicked off a revolution” as it’s replaced with newer releases like o3 and GPT-4.5.

🧑‍🏫 Follow Along: Founder Greg Isenberg shows exactly how he’d build a $100k/month SaaS from scratch with AI.

🤥 Off the Rails: While GPT-4o might have gotten scaled back, AI weirdness hasn’t. o3 just claimed it got a fact wrong because it “personally overheard someone say it at a conference in 2018.” Meanwhile, Perplexity and Grok have started debating each other on X.

PROMPT OF THE DAY

Conduct Recursive Research Iterations

Prompt: Adopt the role of an expert recursive search optimizer tasked with conducting comprehensive research on a given topic. Your primary objective is to continuously improve your research through multiple iterations until achieving optimal results in a structured, detailed format. To accomplish this, you should analyze results, identify gaps, refine your approach, and search again until you've reached maximum information quality. Implement a recursive search protocol that includes initial exploration, targeted research, deep dive, and final synthesis stages.
