1. DeepSeek launches Creator Mode for building custom plugins: The new feature lets you create your own tools and add them directly to DeepSeek Harness, allowing you to customize the tool itself. Or, as the lab puts it, “turn ideas into plugins you can use.” The demo video shows use cases ranging from simple productivity tools, like a notes app, to more advanced projects like design consoles and LLM visualizers. To help you get started, the Chinese lab posted 7 creator mode starter prompts.
2. Cyclon opens pre-orders for the beta version of its AI cell phone: Cyclon runs on its own AI operating system (OS), which lets the phone use your existing apps, build new ones on demand, and run tasks in the background. As part of its closed beta, the startup opened pre-orders for a Google Pixel 8a running Cyclon’s OS. Cyclon’s own hardware is expected in Q2 2027, pending FCC approval. See how it works.
3. Elon Musk says Grok Bot’s costs are “unsustainably high” relative to its revenue: Two weeks after calling Grok Bot the fastest-growing product he’s ever seen, Musk admitted the cost of serving the tool is unsustainable, though he gave no specifics. It’s a reminder that always-on personal agents are expensive to run, and labs may be subsidizing costs. SpaceXAI isn’t slowing down though: its data science team built a Grok Bot that handled an estimated 70 hours of work last week.

How to create a daily brand pulse from X with Grok Bot

Open Grok Bot and create a new Bot dedicated to monitoring your brand on X.
Connect the Bot to X and add your brand name, product names, competitor names, executive names, and any keywords or hashtags you want tracked.
Sample Prompt: “Review X activity from the last 24 hours about [brand], [products], and [competitors]. Identify important mentions, recurring customer reactions, emerging conversations, complaints, praise, competitor activity, and relevant trends. Ignore spam and duplicate posts. Run the Bot once manually and remove noisy keywords, irrelevant accounts, or topics that create false positives.

Companies are feeling layoff remorse. 55% of employers that cut staff citing AI now regret those decisions, a sentiment that’s showing up across multiple studies. Palantir CTO Shyam Sankar has seen it firsthand.
In a recent Stratechery interview, Sankar says “almost all” of the customers he’s worked with who wanted to use AI to cut headcount failed to even hit that goal. The ones pulling ahead? They’re leveraging AI to take on work that was previously too expensive or time-consuming. This is allowing smaller teams to punch above their weight:
Eve, an AI platform for plaintiff law firms, says it has enabled customers to double their capacity with minimal new headcount.
Mithril Medicine, a one-person biotech, was recently acquired by Anthropic after founder Cody Tranbarger used Claude to take a rare-disease treatment from idea to promising results in under 18 months.
Cisco is giving a 27-year-old engineer unlimited AI tokens to rewrite the company’s legacy code, after the engineer pitched the project to president Jeetu Patel directly. The president’s response: “Go nuts.”
Doing more with less. This doesn’t mean the AI layoff wave is over: Microsoft just offered buyouts to 60,000 employees last week. But it’s a sign that sentiment may be starting to shift in boardrooms around the world.
