Welcome back, Superhuman. Last week, Sam Altman issued a company-wide "code red" demanding ChatGPT improvements. The team clearly locked in — OpenAI is reportedly launching a new model as early as this week. The competition isn't slowing down, though. Over the weekend, a rival AI leader announced a surprise model is dropping in the coming weeks.

1. OpenAI could launch a new model as early as tomorrow: OpenAI is reportedly planning to launch GPT-5.2 this week in response to Google's Gemini 3 Pro. The release was originally slated for late December, but OpenAI accelerated the timeline to close the performance gap. According to a weekend tweet from one major rival, OpenAI isn’t the only company planning to release a new model this month.

2. Apple experiences employee exodus in key AI roles: Apple’s head of AI, John Giannandrea, is stepping down. The company's models team has lost roughly a dozen employees, including senior AI scientist Ruoming Pang. The departures are reportedly tied to Apple's decision to outsource AI technology to Google, with many employees heading to Meta or OpenAI.

3. Six-person startup claims it beat big labs on AGI benchmark: Poetiq, a six-person AI startup, claims it was able to grab top spot on the ARC-AGI-2 reasoning benchmark, beating out larger players like Google DeepMind and OpenAI at half the cost. Poetiq attributed the breakthrough to a meta-system that orchestrates several existing models, instead of building a new one of their own. Read more here.

The infrastructure reality behind OpenAI and Anthropic nobody talks about

As CEO of ClickHouse, Aaron Katz has turned a Yandex spinout into a $6B company powering the infrastructure behind OpenAI, Anthropic, and the entire AI stack. We sat down with Katz to talk about what's really happening behind the scenes of the AI boom.

Here are the key takeaways from our conversation.

AI infrastructure is operating at an unreal scale. Tesla, for example, ingests about 1B events per second with unlimited retention. Most databases force companies to set strict retention limits, but modern AI workloads demand everything be retained. This isn't just a Tesla problem, it's the new baseline for any company building serious AI products.

A single ChatGPT prompt triggers up to 50 database queries. When you ask an AI agent a natural language question, the system writes a query, interprets results, writes another query, and repeats. "That's where low latency characteristics really put it apart from others to be the backend to a lot of these LLM providers," Katz explained.

The entire business intelligence sector is ripe for disruption. Katz claims to have built an internal system where anyone can ask, "What are the top ten customers that joined AWS this month in financial services?" and get answers in seconds. Static dashboards can't keep up with AI agents that can generate insights on demand.

Midjourney Prompt: This is a still life advertisement for TAMBURINS perfumes. A perfume bottle stands in the center of the picture. Surrounded by twisted, abstract roses, rose branch and leaf forms made of white and gray plaster. It feels cold, organic, and like an art installation. The whole picture feels minimalist, surreal art installation and cool high-end aesthetics. Reference to the style of photographers Irving Penn and Cho GiSeok. --ar 3:4 --p toystml 1frj8rv
