ALSO: How to generate stunning UIs from text

Welcome back, Superhuman. Oh, to be a fly on the wall at xAI this week. Just as the startup was prepping for Grok 4’s long-awaited launch, its last model was busy going rogue on X. Controversy aside, the real question is whether Grok 4 is the leap toward AGI we’ve been waiting for.
Today: Learn how to generate stunning UIs from text, and get the latest prompts, headlines, and trending social posts.
I’m hiring! I’m looking to bring on new writers to grow this newsletter. If you have strong writing skills and you live and breathe AI, shoot me an email at [email protected] with some writing samples and a couple of sentences on why you’d be a good fit.
TODAY IN AI
1. xAI unveils benchmark-crushing Grok 4: Elon Musk’s AI startup just unveiled “the smartest model in the world,” arguably by a wide margin. The base version of Grok 4 uses a single agent, while a new “heavy” variant lets multiple agents work in unison and compare notes, leading to a massive performance boost. Read on for more details, including how OpenAI might fight back, and why there’s a lot more to the story than just Grok 4 itself.
2. OpenAI gears up for a busy summer: Rumors suggest it’s taking on Google Chrome and Perplexity’s new Comet with an AI-powered browser of its own, set to launch within weeks. Meanwhile, the company’s first open-source release since 2022 could drop as soon as next week, and it’s expected to be about as good as o3-mini with full reasoning capabilities. Finally, OpenAI revealed that its $6.5B merger with ex-Apple designer Jony Ive’s startup is now official, paving the way for its first-ever gadget.
3. Nvidia shatters market value record: The Jensen Huang-led chip designer just became the first company in the world to reach a market capitalization of $4T. That’s on par with the entire GDPs of countries like India and Japan. It bodes well for the tech industry, proving that investors still think there’s value in cutting-edge chips despite the DeepSeek scare earlier this year, although recent breakthroughs from Chinese AI startups this summer could scramble the math all over again.

FROM THE FRONTIER
Grok 4 crushes the competition

xAI’s new 200,000-chip supercomputer is putting in the work. The Elon Musk-led startup just unveiled Grok 4, a model that supposedly beats current leaders — o3 Pro, Claude 4 Opus, and Gemini 2.5 Pro included — across multiple benchmarks.
What’s it capable of?
On Humanity’s Last Exam, a test designed to be especially tricky for LLMs, Grok 4 scored an impressive 41% (with tools), beating the previous record-holder, o3 Pro, by around 15 points.
But with multiple agents running at once (with each sharing their notes), Grok 4 can solve more than half of the exam’s text-based questions and 44.4% of the full dataset.
It achieves state-of-the-art results on the AIME 25, GPQA, and other leading benchmarks, and achieves 15.9% on ARC-AGI — double what Claude 4 Opus scored.
It can get a near-perfect score on the GRE every time, even on questions it was never trained on, according to Musk.
Grok’s voice capabilities have also gotten a major overhaul with new voices and half the latency.
You can try Grok Heavy today, but it’ll cost you: A new subscription tier called SuperGrok Heavy will give you access to both models, higher rate limits, and early access to features for $300/month.
Even before the release, xAI was already making headlines — but for very different reasons. The old version of Grok suddenly started spewing harmful content and hate speech this week, and at one point, xAI allegedly even shut it down on X. Complicating the story, X CEO Linda Yaccarino recently announced she’s stepping down after two years with the company.
Only time will tell if Grok 4’s impressive performance will be enough to bring on new users, especially with the holy grail of AI — OpenAI’s GPT-5 — slated for release later this summer.
