TUTORIAL

How to hunt jobs, tailor resumes, and prepare applications with Instinct

Photo: AI by Aakash

  • Open Instinct’s workspace and connect the services you want it to use, such as Gmail, Google Drive, Calendar, and LinkedIn.

  • Upload your master resume, target roles, locations, salary range, seniority, and deal-breakers.

  • Create a Google Sheet with columns for Company, Role, Link, Fit Score, Date Found, Stage, Deadline, and Notes, then give Instinct access to it.

Sample Prompt: “Find [job titles] in [locations/industries] that match my background. Prioritize [must-haves] and reject roles with [deal-breakers]. For each strong match, score my resume against the job description, tailor it without inventing experience, draft any required application answers, and log the role in my tracker. Fill application forms where possible, but ask me to review the final application before submitting.”

  • Give Instinct permission to use its browser for job boards and employer career portals.

  • Review the first few prepared applications, correct any weak tailoring or bad-fit roles, and reuse those corrections as the standard for future applications.

FROM THE FRONTIER

An OpenAI employee was arrested for allegedly planting a hidden recording device. Naturally, he asked AI for help.

What happened? Abdulrahman Alfozan, a 35-year-old Saudi national, was arrested for allegedly hiding a “sophisticated” recording device in one of the lab’s conference rooms. Here’s the order of events, per the lab’s press release and federal complaint:

  • OpenAI found the device concealed in toilet paper and plugged into the back of a television on September 30th.

  • The lab used its models to identify the device and examined surveillance footage to track which employee had planted it.

  • OpenAI then referred the situation to the FBI, who “moved quickly” to make an arrest roughly one week later on Friday, October 9th.

The device was planted in a conference room frequently used for confidential discussions, usually about proprietary research, business plans, or government engagements. Though, OpenAI says it has no indication that any sensitive information was exposed.

The San Francisco Standard also reported that Alfozan may have used AI to pull off the mission, with one account tied to his wife reportedly prompting “how to build a continuous audio recorder” in the days leading up to the event.

The bigger picture. The former OpenAI employee is in hot water. His official charge is intercepting oral communications and, regardless of his intentions, federal officials are already treating this case as a matter of national security — not just petty workplace crime.
