OpenAI rolls out apps and agent platform

Welcome back, Superhuman. AI might finally be getting its App Store. OpenAI announced apps for ChatGPT at its DevDay event yesterday, along with monetization and (most importantly) access to its 800M users. The move could make ChatGPT the next major app platform.

1. OpenAI unveils major updates at DevDay: The company announced apps in ChatGPT, along with an Apps SDK for developers. Agents are also coming to the platform with the new AgentKit tool to help users build and deploy agents. The Sora 2 video model and an upgraded GPT-5 Pro are coming to the API. There’s also a new gpt-realtime-mini audio model, as well as a cheaper gpt-image-1-mini image model for builders.

2. OpenAI bets big on AMD GPUs: The ChatGPT maker has partnered with AMD to supply six gigawatts of processors for its AI data centers. The five-year deal begins with a one-gigawatt rollout of AMD Instinct MI450 GPUs in the second half of 2026. AMD expects “tens of billions” in revenue and grants OpenAI the option to buy up to 10% of its stock if targets are met. AMD shares surged 23.7% following the announcement.

3. Anthropic powers Deloitte’s global AI push: The consulting giant plans to give its 470,000 employees access to its Claude AI assistant, with the rollout covering more than 150 countries. Deloitte says the initiative will help its staff use AI responsibly and provide guidance to clients exploring technology. The timing, however, raised eyebrows since the announcement came hours after Deloitte said it would repay Australia’s government for a report it admits contained AI-generated mistakes.

Every major announcement from OpenAI’s DevDay 2025

• Apps SDK: Third-party devs will be able to build interactive apps (including paid ones) directly inside ChatGPT. Users can access Canva, Zillow, Spotify, and more apps without ever leaving the chat interface. The SDK is rolling out now, with app submission and monetization expected later this year.

• AgentKit: A new platform that lets developers drag and drop to build AI agents without juggling fragmented tools. The suite includes Agent Builder (a visual canvas for creating multi-agent workflows), Connector Registry (centralized control for data connections), and ChatKit (for embedding chat interfaces).

• Codex: The AI coding tool is now generally available to all ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Team, and Enterprise users. New features include Slack integration (just tag @Codex to delegate tasks) and a Codex SDK for custom workflows.

• APIs: OpenAI has given API access to GPT-5 Pro (for high-stakes deep reasoning), gpt-realtime-mini (a more cost-efficient voice model), and Sora 2 (for videos with synchronized sound and cinematic camera controls).

• Evals: The company also rolled out upgrades to its Evals platform. New features include customizable datasets with automated grading and trace grading for end-to-end workflow assessments. Now users can also evaluate third-party models alongside OpenAI's own.
