Perplexity will select 10 finalists to present live on video.

FROM THE FRONTIER
Be extra cautious when getting information from AI Overviews

Made with Midjourney
AI accuracy. A recent NYT report found that Google’s AI Overviews are accurate 90% of the time, a stat that’s reassuring at first — until you do the math. At 5 trillion searches a year, that 10% miss rate means tens of millions of overviews are wrong every hour. But the bigger problem? Every overview looks confident and official.
Why are overviews inaccurate? The study revealed three reasons why AI overviews stumble: relying on info from Facebook and Reddit (the #2 and #4 most used sources), linking to websites that don’t back up the claim, or generating false summaries of factual information.
Chatbots can also be gamed. Scammers and savvy marketers can also deliberately mislead chatbots hunting for information. Journalist Thomas Germain proved the point by publishing a blog post called The Best Tech Journalists at Eating Hot Dogs, ranking himself #1, and watching AI serve it up as fact.
Always verify. AI chatbots are still genuinely useful search assistants. They’re right most of the time, can research faster than any human, and will likely find critical insights you’d otherwise miss. Let AI handle the grunt work — just verify its claims before you act on them.
