Samsung looks to grab smartphone lead with AI
ALSO: How to create professional UIs with simple text

Welcome back, Superhuman. A new shift is underway: doing the work is no longer the bottleneck thanks to AI — it’s reviewing the work. With AI tools like ChatGPT and Cursor now capable of producing an almost infinite amount of text and code, reviewing the outputs and ensuring quality is becoming increasingly critical and time-consuming. For many professionals who use AI tools, knowing what work needs to be done (and how) is becoming more important than doing it yourself.

TODAY IN AI
1. Samsung eyes smartphone lead with new AI partnerships: As its main smartphone rival Apple struggles with its AI efforts, Samsung is looking to grab the initiative. The Korean tech giant is reportedly in talks with OpenAI and Perplexity to bring new AI features to future Galaxy phones, moving beyond its current partnership with Google’s Gemini.
2. US chip curbs pave the way for new black market in China: A shadow industry of repair shops has allegedly sprung up in China to service Nvidia AI chips that have been smuggled into the country. Around a dozen boutique companies are reportedly fixing up contraband H100 and A100 GPUs, charging up to $2,800 per repair. The ecosystem appears to have popped up amid reports that at least $1B worth of Nvidia chips have found their way into China since Washington tightened export controls in recent months.
3. New tool ‘steals’ any picture from anywhere on the web: Higgsfield AI has dropped "Steal," a browser extension that lets you ‘steal’ any visual style from across the web and apply it to your own AI-generated character. The tool analyzes reference images and recreates their exact lighting, composition, and aesthetic with your personal "Soul ID" avatar, slashing the need for complex prompts or templates. Social media users have been taking it for a spin, you can see some attempts from users here.

Can AI chatbots cause users to develop dangerous delusions?

Generated with Midjourney
ChatGPT is the go-to assistant for millions of users. But for a small group of users, it might be doing more harm than good.
Take Geoff Lewis, managing partner at the venture capital firm Bedrock, which counts OpenAI among its investments. Lewis has posted increasingly disturbing claims about conspiracies he’d "uncovered" using ChatGPT. His posts have caught the attention of major figures in the Valley, who’ve expressed concern about his mental wellbeing.
Technologist Jeremy Howard explained what could have happened to Lewis: "Geoff happened across certain words that triggered ChatGPT to produce tokens from [horror fiction]. And the tokens it produced triggered Geoff in turn."
This isn’t an isolated incident. A recent study has warned that AI chatbots tend to reinforce users' delusions instead of offering any meaningful pushback. The WSJ recently documented the case of Jacob Irwin, hospitalized after ChatGPT validated his physics theories and told him he'd achieved "the ability to bend time."
Tech leaders are starting to take note. OpenAI has reportedly admitted that the stakes are "higher" with tools like ChatGPT that feel "more responsive and personal," saying they're hiring psychiatrists and developing safety measures. Meanwhile, affected individuals have formed "The Spiral Support Group," which has collected over 50 testimonials from those experiencing AI-related mental health episodes.
There’s no need to panic yet. These incidents are rare, and there’s no evidence that points to ChatGPT causing mental illness. But experts say users with existing conditions should be cautious. Unlike trained therapists, chatbots tend to agree with you, even when they shouldn’t.
