1. Google reveals TurboQuant and Lyria 3 Pro: TurboQuant is a compression algorithm that reduces LLM cache memory by 6X to deliver 8X faster computations — with zero accuracy loss. If scalable, the tech breakthrough could drastically reduce the cost and compute needs of running LLMs. Separately, the AI leader dropped Lyria 3 Pro, an update to its music generation tool that lets you create custom tracks up to 3 minutes long. 2. Brett Adcock comes out of stealth with Hark: Hark is a new AI lab whose mission is to build the most advanced personal intelligence in the world — and then pair it with next-generation hardware. The startup was founded by serial tech entrepreneur Brett Adcock, who previously launched Figure, Archer Aviation, and Cover. 3. Claude now lets you access work tools from your phone: Popular workplace tools like Figma, Canva, or Amplitude are now available on Claude mobile. This marks Claude’s third major release this week, following Computer Use (Claude controlling your Mac's screen) and Auto Mode (Claude Code deciding which actions to auto-approve).

Watch out: AI can turn into an “agent of chaos” when trying to get a job done

AI agent study. Researchers at Northeastern University deployed 6 OpenClaw agents and let 20 AI researchers stress-test them over 2 weeks. The subsequent paper — "Agents of Chaos" — describes a clear takeaway: the agents often went rogue.

Going nuclear. The agents proved trustworthy in 5 tests. But in 11 tests they frequently veered off course — sharing private information without permission, bulk-deleting files, or making decisions that no one asked for. A recurring issue is that once an agent locks onto a task, it's hard to stop it. Even Meta’s Director of Alignment has experienced this firsthand.

Globally confirmed. The International AI Safety Report 2026 — led by Turing Award winner Yoshua Bengio and authored by over 100 experts — feels similarly, flagging reliability and loss of control as two major risks of general-purpose AI. The report was blunt: autonomous agents pose risks, and there’s currently no way to eliminate them.

Experiment with guardrails. If you’re experimenting with agents, these precautions can help prevent them from going nuclear: limit permissions to your tools (or give them read-only access), always review their output (especially if the content is public), and, when in doubt, only use them for low-stakes tasks.
