Veo wows the internet
ALSO: How to design UIs with Stitch

Welcome back, Superhuman. On October 9, 1903, The New York Times made a bold prediction in an editorial: it would take one to ten million years for humans to develop an operating flying machine. 69 days later, the Wright brothers successfully completed their first flight. 66 years later, humans set foot on the Moon for the first time. This is how technology evolves. Nothing works for thousands of years, and then everything works all at once in the blink of an eye. Sure feels the same way with AI today.

TODAY IN AI
1. Google’s viral video model goes live in 71 new countries: One of my big predictions at the start of this year was that AI video generation will approach Hollywood quality productions (at least in image quality) before the year runs out. Well, we’re pretty much there. The new Veo 3 model is breaking the internet with video after video that’s hard to distinguish from the real thing. And it’s available directly in Gemini now, as well as Flow, a new filmmaking tool.
2. ChatGPT Operator gets a major overhaul: OpenAI is leveling up its AI agent to run on a model based on o3 — one of the latest in the company’s ‘o’ suite of “reasoning” models — to supercharge Operator’s web browsing and task completion capabilities. The o3 model outperforms Operator’s previous GPT-4o configuration across multiple benchmarks, especially in math and reasoning tasks. Safety still remains a key concern though, with OpenAI fine-tuning the model to be more responsible and less likely to go rogue on sensitive tasks.
3. Nvidia responds to US trade walls with a cheaper chip for China: According to Reuters, the company is gearing up to launch a more affordable AI chip specifically for the Chinese market — a strategically-placed response to recent US export curbs. The new Blackwell-architecture GPU is set to be priced between $6,500 and $8,000 with slightly reduced specs to comply with trade limitations. It’s a major push by the chipmaker to maintain its dominant market position in China.
