10 Best ChatGPT Plugins: Get The Most Out Of AI in 2025
ChatGPT can already do a lot on its own. But, plugins can enhance it even more.
With plugins, ChatGPT can browse the web, manage tasks, create better content, help you organize your day, and more.
But how do you know which plugins will help make the most of your time rather than add to the clutter?
In this post, we’re breaking down 10 of the best ChatGPT plugins you can use to start working smarter today.
What is a ChatGPT plugin?
In simple terms, a ChatGPT plugin is like an extra tool you hand to the AI, a way to give it skills it doesn't naturally have.
On its own, ChatGPT is trained to generate and analyze text. It can answer questions, write articles, brainstorm ideas, and hold conversations.
However, it has some limitations. It can’t naturally integrate with certain other tools to automate tasks. Plugins allow more integrations so that you can get more done.
In 2023, OpenAI launched ChatGPT’s plugin beta.
Initially, there were 11 third-party plugins. Just a year later, in 2024, the number of available plugins had grown to 1,039 and counting (Source: Master of Code).
Each plugin connects ChatGPT to a specific external service, data source, or action. Some allow it to pull information from the live web, retrieve data from PDFs, manage tasks, or run detailed calculations.
In 2025, plugins are a core part of how serious users get value from ChatGPT. Without them, you only use a fraction of the tool’s functions.
Right now, the average ChatGPT Plus user utilizes two plugins per month (Source: BrowserCat). That number might seem low, but it shows that most users aren’t loading up on tools they never touch. They’re choosing a few plugins that directly fit their workflow and relying on them consistently.
How to install and manage ChatGPT plugins
In 2024, ChatGPT changed the way you add plugins to the AI tool.
For example, you used to be able to go into the settings menu and select “Settings and Beta.” Then, you’d click “Plugins” to enable them.
From there, you could start a new chat, choose GPT-4, click on the model selector, and pick “Plugins.” This would take you to the “Plugin Store” to browse the available plugins.
After that, you could find the plugin you want and click “Install.”
As of April 9, 2024, OpenAI retired the standalone plugin system and replaced it with “custom GPTs.” These are now accessible through the GPT Store. This means the previous method of enabling plugins via the “Beta Features” tab is no longer available.
Here’s how you can access custom GPTs:
Access the GPT Store.
Log in to your ChatGPT account.
Click on the “Explore GPTs” button in the sidebar to open the GPT Store.
Browse and select GPTs.
In the GPT Store, you can browse through various categories or use the search function to find GPTs or ”plugins” that suit your needs.

Click on a GPT to view its description and capabilities.
Use a custom GPT
Once you’ve found a GPT you’d like to use, click on it to start a new chat session with that specific GPT.
To manage your GPTs:
Access the “My GPTs” section from the sidebar to view and manage GPTs you’ve created.
Here, you can edit, delete, or update the settings of your custom GPTs.
Note: You can use custom GPTs with a free ChatGPT account. However, only ChatGPT Plus subscribers can create and share them.
10 best ChatGPT plugins
There’s no shortage of ChatGPT plugins. And OpenAI’s work on GPT-5 aims to push these capabilities further.
In this section, we’ll discuss 10 of the best ChatGPT plugins that will make the tool more useful in 2025.
