ALSO: How to use deep research agent to study for interviews

Welcome back, Superhuman. By now, we’ve all seen TV ads for AI, but ads made with AI? A commercial created with the help of Google’s Veo 3 allegedly aired during the NBA Finals this week. It might be one of the first times an AI-generated video has made its way to our TV screens — but definitely not the last.

TODAY IN AI

1. Nvidia might want to watch its back: Rival chipmaker AMD just unveiled a new batch of AI chips it claims compare to the performance of Nvidia’s Blackwell family while delivering a 35x inference boost over its previous generation. The announcement earned endorsements from OpenAI’s Sam Altman, along with execs from Meta and xAI — a sign that they’re sticking behind AMD’s open-source approach, which lets AI companies mix and match components, keeping costs low.

2. Microsoft’s Copilot can now see everything on your screen: PC owners in the US are finally getting their hands on Copilot’s long-awaited Vision capabilities. The idea is that as soon as you run into a problem — whether it’s finding an obscure setting, troubleshooting an edit in Photoshop, or improving your website design — there’s an AI companion there to guide you through the next steps. It can even highlight words or buttons so it’s easier to follow along.

3. ByteDance researchers unveil promising real-time AI video model: TikTok owner ByteDance just showed off an experimental video model that’s so fast you can interact with it live. It uses a unique blend of techniques, including autoregressive generation, which uses the video’s previous frame to kickstart the creation of the next one. The model’s speedy properties unlock new possibilities, letting you do things like transform an AI avatar’s movements in real-time using motion sensors, something that’s not possible with traditional VLMs. Check out some examples here.

FROM THE FRONTIER

An AI-generated ad allegedly made it onto a prime-time broadcast

If you tuned into the NBA Finals this week, you might have seen a frenetic, “unhinged” commercial for the online trading platform Kalshi. It turns out, it was created with the help of ChatGPT and Veo 3, according to PJ Ace, the AI filmmaker behind the project.

How’d he do it?

  • He used Gemini and ChatGPT to transform a rough script into a detailed list of shots and prompts.

  • Next, he generated clips in Google Flow, which is powered by Veo 3 (considered by many creators to be the current state-of-the-art video model).

  • Finally, he edited the video with conventional software like CapCut and Adobe Premiere.

  • Check out PJ Ace’s newsletter for a more detailed breakdown of his process, including some sample prompts.

Why did it work? We all know video models can be a little unpredictable. So PJ Ace went with a zany, over-the-top premise that leaned into some of Veo’s weirder quirks.

What it means: Veo’s rapid jump in quality is shaking up the filmmaking industry much faster than anyone could have anticipated. Accetturo claims he was able to create the spot in just two or three days, and with a 95% cost reduction compared to traditional ads. He predicts taste and creativity will become high-value skills in the future, as the barriers to entry get much lower.
