Welcome back, Superhuman

As the old proverb goes: ‘If you can’t beat them, join them.’ Instead of fighting back against the AI giant, news outlets are welcoming it, some with open arms. Will it work in their favor?

Read all about it: AI enters the newsroom

Yahoo wants in on the AI action. While its news aggregation platform already has hundreds of millions of readers per month, Yahoo is saying ‘I want more.’ So it's teaming up with Artifact, which built AI-powered news feeds before almost shutting down in January. Yahoo thinks the company's tech will be a perfect fit.

Whether journalists are ready or not, AI is headed to the newsroom. Some reporters are worried AI will only hurt an industry that’s already struggling. But others think they can stay ahead of the curve by embracing new AI tools — from automated fact-checking to personalized news feeds.

Here’s how news outlets are reacting:

  • The Financial Times created an experimental chatbot that draws its responses from the paper’s archive of articles and economic data.

  • In December, Axel Springer, the parent company of Politico, Business Insider, and Die Welt, said it had signed a first-of-its-kind publishing deal with OpenAI.

  • The BBC said it’s going to incorporate generative AI into its production process. It’ll start by using its own archives to train a new AI model.

  • The New York Times plans to launch a generative AI ad tool this year. But it also sued OpenAI for allegedly using millions of its articles to train ChatGPT — a sign that not every outlet sees AI as a net positive.

How to automate customer support tasks and reduce support tickets with AI

Dealing with customer requests and complaints can be on of the most painful parts of running business operations - especially when the requests are repetitive and should be automated. Try this to automate both customer support training and support tickets:

  • Download the Guidde extension on Chrome. It's an AI-powered tool that records you doing a process and automatically turns it into a video with instructions.

  • Click on the Guidde extension icon in the top right of your browser and do the task that you want to use for customer support automation.

  • Click on the extension icon again when you're done.

  • Go to Guidde’s website and find a recording of the process, along with captions and instructions that are automatically added to the video.

  • Make any adjustments that you want to the captions and instructions.

Create a recording for each type of recurring customer support ticket and share the clip with customers to help reduce the amount of time it takes to deal with repetitive tickets and automate the process along the way.

CHART

What’s the definition of AI?

Source: Washington Post

When you think of AI, what comes to mind? Not everyone has the same definition — not even experts. A new Washington Post analysis shows what its readers and experts think of different platforms and tools.

While nearly every expert agreed that tap-to-pay isn’t AI, some readers thought it could be. On the other hand, while most readers weren’t sure whether Google Translate counts as AI, a majority of experts said it definitely is.

The data shows that our definition of AI is constantly changing with the times. There was one major point of agreement though: Readers and experts alike generally think chatbots like ChatGPT should definitely be considered AI.
