Researchers are using AI to predict specialized cancer treatment outcomes

One of the difficult things about treating any disease — but especially cancer — is that all of our bodies are different. As a result, a course of action that works for one person might have little effect on someone else. Now, scientists at the National Institutes of Health are using AI to help doctors figure out which treatments their patients will best respond to.

The details: In a new study, researchers showed how they can accurately predict whether immunotherapy drugs will work for a particular patient. That treatment uses immune cells — the ones our bodies use to fight infections and other illnesses — to kill off cancer cells. On average, it only works for around 20% of patients, depending on cancer type and other factors, but it can be life-saving in cases where it’s effective.

How it works: The model can generate its findings using data from a simple blood test. It means that patients don’t need to go through an invasive procedure to find out whether they’re a good candidate. Factors like age, cancer type, and previous treatments are taken into account, too. The model, which is now available as an open-source platform, was also able to predict how long a patient would go on to live for in both the short- and the long-term — although the scientists said larger studies are still needed to verify those results.

A growing field: This is just the latest in a series of healthcare-related breakthroughs that were made possible with AI. Models can now interpret medical scans, create new drugs, and assist with surgeries. One promising startup, Eko Health, uses AI-powered stethoscopes to detect heart murmurs and heart disease. The AI healthcare market is expected to grow by more than 38% each year, eventually reaching $188 billion by 2030.

How to automate documentation and training with AI

Explaining the same thing over and over again to new employees and customers can be frustrating. Having the right documentation makes your processes scalable and repeatable, and saves time for everyone involved.

Here’s how to automate your documentation and training processes with AI:

  • Download the Guidde browser extension. It's an AI-powered tool that records you doing a process and automatically turns it into a video with instructions.

  • Click on the Guidde extension icon in the top right of your browser and do the task that you want to train your employees to learn.

  • Click on the extension icon again when you're done.

  • Go to Guidde’s website and find a recording of the process, along with captions and instructions that are automatically added to the video.

  • Make any adjustments that you want to the captions and instructions.

  • Share the recording with your team or customers so they can learn how to do it without you having to explain it over and over again.

Here is a link to a training video I created on how to convert files with ChatGPT. The whole process took me less than a minute.

How to create your own Custom GPT to generate Spreadsheet Formulas

  • Go to ChatGPT’s website and log in to your account

  • Click on the "Explore" option in the sidebar on the left of the screen

  • Click on “+ Create” and enter instructions in the message box on the Create page

Explain ChatGPT what you would like to make. For instance, I have used the following prompt:

I want to build a custom GPT that can analyze simple language and turn it into Excel formulas for spreadsheets
  • ChatGPT will suggest you a name and a display picture for your custom GPT. You can always ask for changes if you want.

  • Now explain what needs to be focused on and what to avoid. Also, explain the tone of your conversation with GPT. Use this prompt:

It should focus on how to implement the converted formulas in a spreadsheet, providing step-by-step instructions if necessary
  • Your Excel Formula Converter is now ready to be used. Publish it and share it with your team or friends.

Now, let’s try our Custom GPT. Open Excel Formula Converter Custom GPT and use the following prompt:

What's the formula to concatenate two columns?

It will give you an Excel formula to concatenate two columns. Similarly, you can use it to create any Excel formula you want by explaining it in simple language.

PROMPT OF THE DAY

DIY Mobile App

Prompt: Create wireframes and user flows for a mobile banking app aimed at senior citizens. The design should take into account [common challenges faced by seniors when using mobile apps], [specific banking functions they prioritize], and [any preferred visual design elements or themes].

You can adapt the prompt to your specific needs. For example, you can change the target audience (ex: recent college graduates, DINKs, etc…) or the type of app (ex: calendar, to-do list, etc…).

OpenAI is allegedly teaming up with Apple

Two’s a party, three’s a crowd. OpenAI and Microsoft had a good thing going. They’d formed one of the biggest collaborations in the industry, exchanging Microsoft’s server access for OpenAI’s GPTs. Now, a rumored deal between OpenAI and Apple has left Microsoft wondering whether it got the short end of the stick.

What can we expect? At its June 10 developers conference, Apple is expected to announce a partnership with OpenAI that would give Siri a long-overdue upgrade, while bringing ChatGPT-powered features to the latest version of iOS. Users can expect AI-powered photo editing, emojis, and messages. Siri will also allegedly be able to perform tasks and control features across various apps.

But as Apple and OpenAI grow closer than ever, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is allegedly worried his company might get burned in the process. It supplies the servers that power OpenAI’s models, and it’s not clear whether they’ll buckle under the weight of millions of users. Not to mention, each of Apple’s new AI features put it in direct opposition with Microsoft, who had a head start integrating AI into Copilot and other products.

Everything else you need to know today

  • Memory Problems: Computer scientists raised concerns about Windows’ new AI-powered Recall feature, which lets you retrace your steps online, after an ethical coder built a platform that can easily breach the tool.

  • Scaling Back: Chinese AI companies have been forced to design lower-tech processors so they can continue working with chip manufacturer TSMC in the wake of new US sanctions.

  • Tech Duet: Spotify could soon get Gemini integration, letting users find and play music within the chatbot. The feature is already available for YouTube Music.

  • Ready for Liftoff: After several delays, Boeing’s Starliner launched two astronauts toward the International Space Station on its first crewed flight Wednesday morning.

😄 One Fun Thing: Scientists at MIT built a chatbot that lets you talk with an AI version of your older self — complete with an artificially aged profile picture. “This could motivate people to make wiser choices in the present that optimize for their long-term wellbeing and life outcomes,” one researcher told the Guardian.
