đŸ’„ AI talent war reaches new heights

ALSO: How to automate tasks with ChatGPT Agent

Welcome back, Superhuman. Talk about a rollercoaster ride. DeepMind was still flaunting its IMO gold medal this week when news broke that some of the researchers behind the breakthrough are jumping ship — to none other than Meta.

TODAY IN AI

The battle for top AI talent continues with a flood of DeepMind researchers headed to Meta and Microsoft. Source: Created with Gemini

1. Google opens access to ‘fastest 2.5 model yet’: Google just released what might be the perfect model for developers who want to scale up their AI-powered apps without breaking the bank. With a cost of just $0.10/1M input tokens, Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite is best for high-volume tasks where speed and low-latency are key — things like generating summaries, translating across languages, and extracting screenshots from videos.

2. OpenAI races to secure more chip capacity: OpenAI announced it’ll pay an unprecedented $30B per year for 4.5 gigawatts of data capacity from cloud giant Oracle. That should give the ChatGPT-maker access to more than 1M AI chips by the end of the year, a crucial step to train GPT-6 and beyond. The startup faces stiff competition from xAI, which already has hundreds of thousands of GPUs online while looking for $12B to fuel even more chip spending.

3. Meta scoops DeepMind researchers behind IMO gold breakthrough: Just days after DeepMind turned in a record performance on the International Mathematical Olympiad, Meta has lured away three of the lab’s top researchers. While we don’t have many details, rumors suggest Meta recently offered $1.25B to one sought-after researcher in a different negotiation. And it doesn’t end there: Microsoft has also joined the industry’s cutthroat talent war, poaching around two dozen DeepMind researchers in recent months to beef up its Copilot offerings.

FROM THE FRONTIER

AI ‘therapists’ level up with first foundation model for psychology

Many of us already turn to AI for advice, but the results can be mixed, to say the least. Sometimes, chatbots just back us up no matter what, limiting our progress. In other cases, they can give inaccurate or even dangerous suggestions.

Enter Ash, a no-cost platform from Slingshot AI, built from the ground up to serve as a sensitive and thoughtful mental health companion. Slingshot was co-founded by Neil Parikh, an entrepreneur who helped launch mattress giant Casper around a decade ago. The company has raised $93M so far from VCs like Radical Ventures and a16z, bringing on 50,000+ users.

What makes it different? Unlike typical LLMs, which are trained on anything and everything, Ash is built from a set of specialized clinical data and trained with the help of experts. The startup claims this makes the app less prone to the hallucinations and sycophancy that can plague general-purpose chatbots.

Can it replace your therapist? Probably not. Ash isn’t really designed to give you advice or a diagnosis — it’s more like a listening companion that can help you explore different areas of your mental health at your own pace.

It’s important to point out that because LLMs are so new, we don’t have a lot of good data about the risks associated with using them for mental problems. Slingshot also warns that Ash shouldn’t be used in a crisis. But one potential upside is that if users do get some benefit out of the platform, it could convince them to seek help from a human therapist.

THE AI ACADEMY

How to automate tasks with ChatGPT Agent

  1. Log in to ChatGPT (Pro plan required)

  2. Go to Tools > Agent Mode > Use Cases

    • Choose what you want to generate: Presentation, Spreadsheet, Report, etc.

  3. Enter your prompt telling the agent what to do. Make sure to add details to the prompt.

Sample Prompt (for a presentation): “Create a strategic presentation outlining the role of emerging agtech solutions—like precision agriculture, drought-resilient crops, and vertical farming—in addressing global food security challenges. Identify the most impacted geographies and use data to quantify agricultural productivity gaps. Compare cost structures, environmental impact, and scalability across solution types. Highlight policy incentives, sovereign investment trends, and early-stage startups with differentiated tech or distribution. Organize the presentation by challenge area (e.g., yield improvement, water use, land degradation) and conclude with a prioritized roadmap for institutional investors or multilaterals.”

  • The agent will do all the work and generate a detailed, downloadable file—ready to use or edit.

  • You can build strategic decks, research-backed reports, dynamic spreadsheets, multi-page business documents, competitive landscapes, and actionable roadmaps with ChatGPT agent.
