Welcome back, Superhuman

We just wrapped our heads around Nvidia’s latest AI chip announcement this March, and already, the world’s third most valuable company has come out swinging with yet another release, slated for 2026. But Intel is responding with a barrage of its own AI announcements.

NEXT IN AI

Nvidia’s new AI chip — and more from the year’s biggest computing event

Nvidia’s planning ahead…way ahead. Its latest AI chips, announced in March, haven’t even shipped to customers yet. But at this week’s Computex event in Taiwan, it hyped up Rubin, a more efficient processor that will become available in 2026. It also announced it’s moving to a steady annual release schedule. Meanwhile, heavy-hitters like AMD, Intel, and Arm showed off their own AI-focused chips. Here’s a roundup of the biggest news from the event so far.

  • AMD unveiled its Ryzen AI 300 series, which is designed for integration with Microsoft’s new Copilot+ AI PCs. At 50 TOPS of power, they allegedly beat out Apple’s M4 and other rivals to become the most powerful AI chips for laptops.

  • Qualcomm will also bring its new Snapdragon X Elite chips to AI desktops and laptops. That’s a big change, since its semiconductors — which are based on UK-based designer Arm’s chip architecture — have until recently only appeared in mobile devices. Acer, Asus, Microsoft, and others plan to soon release PCs powered with the new chips.

  • Speaking of Arm, it wants to ramp up its partnerships so that by next year, there will be 100 billion AI-enabled Arm devices around the world. It plans to eventually capture at least half of the PC market — although competitor Intel has other plans, which we’ll cover in our secondary story.

What it means for you: Until recently, only developers and coders could access power-intensive AI tools. But this week’s announcements mark a big step toward accessibility. If you’re looking to invest in a PC with built-in AI capabilities, there will soon be plenty of options to choose from across different price points.

AI & INNOVATION

Intel is going all-in on AI

Source: Intel

Intel once dominated the PC market, but Nvidia and AMD have been steadily chipping away at its lead, especially in the AI department. The Santa Clara-based company might have just shed its underdog status with a series of AI announcements geared toward both businesses and consumers.

Intel’s upcoming releases include:

  • Xeon 6 processors, which make data centers more cost-effective by splitting workloads into two different categories — E-core for efficiency, and P-core for performance

  • Gaudi 3 AI accelerators, which are specifically designed to power bigger tasks, like training new AI models

  • Lunar Lake processors, which will be used in the next generation of AI PCs across more than 80 different laptop designs, delivering 48 TOPS of AI performance, or roughly three times the speed of the previous generation

Intel estimates that the usage of neural processing units — processors specifically designed to handle AI tasks more efficiently — will likely rise from about 25% this year to 30% in 2025. Some analysts have predicted that NPUs could eventually become the dominant processors by the end of the decade, as machine learning becomes a bigger part of the apps and tools we use every day.

The bottom line: AI PCs are expected to make up about 60% of the AI market by 2027, according to Intel. The firm says its Xeon and Gaudi processors will make AI more accessible for smaller companies who might not have previously had the opportunity to work with LLMs because of high training costs. Consumers, meanwhile, will get a chance to buy the first Intel AI PCs later this year.
