Big Tech kicks off earnings season

ALSO: How to transform customer problems into strategic plans with AI

Welcome back, Superhuman. Videos of shark-infested, flooded streets after Hurricane Melissa are racking up millions of views. But there’s a problem: The sharks aren’t real — they’re AI-generated. Welcome to the age of ā€˜disaster disinformation.’

Today: Big Tech’s big earnings week, learn how to transform customer problems into strategic plans with AI, and get the latest prompts and trending social posts.

1. Microsoft rolls out App Builder and Workflows in Copilot: App Builder lets you create and edit full-stack applications using simple conversational prompts — no coding knowledge required. Meanwhile, the new ā€˜Workflows’ feature automates routine tasks across the Copilot platform. The features come bundled with existing $30 monthly Copilot subscriptions. You can see them in action here.

2. Big Tech kicks off earnings season amid ā€˜AI bubble’ fears: Meta spooked investors after the company unveiled plans to "notably" ramp up AI spending through 2026, causing shares to plummet 8% and wiping out about $160B in market value. Microsoft dipped 3.6% — an Azure outage and slowing cloud growth dampened its report. Meanwhile, Alphabet rallied 6% after reporting its first-ever $100B quarterly revenue. The 'Magnificent 7' continue to have an outsized impact on the S&P 500.

3. Nvidia becomes the world's first $5T company: The chipmaker’s meteoric rise — responsible for nearly one-fifth of the S&P 500's gains this year alone — was further fueled by the prospect of potential 'Blackwell' chip exports to China, and CEO Jensen Huang's statements that next-gen chips are on track to generate half a trillion in revenue. If Nvidia were a country, here’s how its GDP would measure up.

Slack was already essential for the Superhuman team — but Slack’s newly improved Slackbot took our productivity to another level.

This is not another ā€œtoolā€ to learn. Instead, Slackbot works directly in our workspace for:

  • Unmatched context: Enterprise Search compiles all our docs, conversations, and files for instant answers

  • Seamless automation: Creates canvases, schedules meetings, drafts content, etc

  • Personal assistant: Learns your workstyle, enhances productivity

Think of it like your smartest teammate who can instantly recall any conversation or document, and accelerate every project.

FROM THE FRONTIER

Companies are laying off thousands of workers. Is it really because of AI?

Made with Midjourney

The AI layoffs are finally here — or so the headlines would have you believe.

In recent weeks, a wave of job cuts has swept through Silicon Valley. Amazon cut about 14,000 corporate jobs earlier this week. Chegg slashed its workforce by 45%, citing "new realities" posed by AI. Salesforce recently gutted about 4,000 customer service roles, with CEO Marc Benioff claiming AI agents are doing the work instead.

But experts aren’t buying it. "There is a real tendency to overreact to individual company announcements because everyone is so freaked out about AI," says Martha Gimbel from Yale's Budget Lab. Tech investor Chamath Palihapitiya believes that recent layoffs point to company-specific hiring practices and economic cycles. Oxford researcher Fabian Stephany backs this up.

Here’s what’s really going on: Yale’s Budget Lab has tracked market data since 2022 and notes that a lot of the companies cutting jobs today went on massive hiring sprees during the pandemic (when interest rates were near zero). Now that borrowing costs have surged, they’re trimming back — and AI makes for strong positioning.

The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. Indeed’s AI at Work Report 2025 found that as of today, AI can only replace about 0.7% of nearly 3,000 job skills. What we’re seeing is likely a mix of real AI-led job displacement and convenient corporate messaging. It'll take years to untangle which is which.

Apply the following flow-enhancement techniques naturally and selectively, only where they truly elevate the content:
Contrast: while, whereas, on the other hand
