1. Qualcomm's stock soars 15% as it announces new chips to compete with NVIDIA. The chipmaker will produce the AI200 and the AI250 chips in full-rack systems that allow as many as 72 chips to work together. The timing couldn't be better for Qualcomm's ambitions: McKinsey estimates nearly $6.7 trillion will be spent on data centers through 2030, as major buyers like OpenAI are increasingly shopping around for alternatives to Nvidia’s offerings.

2. Anthropic releases Claude for Excel: Currently in beta as a research preview, the tool allows users to work directly with Claude in a sidebar in Microsoft Excel. The tool will read, analyze, modify, and create new Excel workbooks. Anthropic is also rolling out new Skills and connectors made specifically for finance professionals.

3. AI startup powering ChatGPT’s expertise reaches $10B valuation: Mercor, which connects AI labs like OpenAI with domain experts for training their foundational AI models, has raised $350M at a $10B valuation. Felicis Ventures is leading this round, with Benchmark, General Catalyst, and Robinhood Ventures also participating.

  • Go to Figma, sign in, and open ‘Make’ (or go to Figma Make directly).

  • Upload a reference infographic, write your prompt, and press enter

Anthropic is catching up to OpenAI’s revenue — but both companies are playing a different game

The next frontier for the AI giants isn’t just building smarter models — it’s how they monetize them. While ChatGPT is racking up big numbers on its consumer subscription revenue, Anthropic has reportedly now surpassed OpenAI on API revenue, putting the Claude maker ahead of its rival on business user revenue.

OpenAI is undergoing its Meta-fication. After the runaway success of ChatGPT (which now has over 800 million users), the company is focused on making the chatbot the next big consumer platform, similar to Instagram and Facebook. The comparison isn’t a coincidence — OpenAI has hired former Meta execs Fidji Simo and Kevin Weil to lead its consumer business, along with several other Meta employees.

Meanwhile, Anthropic is taking the opposite path, hiring Cloud veterans to build its enterprise empire. The company is focused on embedding its models deep inside enterprise stacks and developer workflows. The Wall Street Journal thinks this might even be a better business model — consumers change tastes much faster than businesses.

Back to the future. Meta built the apps everyone spends time on; Amazon built the cloud everything runs on. Both became trillion-dollar companies. OpenAI is betting AI follows Meta’s path: a consumer gateway to the internet. Anthropic's betting it follows Amazon's: invisible infrastructure powering everything. If history's any guide, they're both probably right.
