Nvidia delivers the superchip that will become “the engine of the new industrial revolution”

Jensen Huang is the Taylor Swift of AI. The year’s biggest AI convention started with a bang, as Nvidia’s CEO delivered the goods and left thousands in attendance cheering. The company has had a blockbuster year, with its stock soaring some 260%. But investors had been waiting with bated breath to see whether the chip manufacturing could continue its winning streak.

By all indications, Nvidia delivered. CEO Jensen Huang unveiled a new generation of AI superchips called Blackwell that he says is destined to become “the engine of the new industrial revolution.” The chips are about twice the size of Nvidia’s previous AI-friendly GPUs and can be chained together for even more performance.

So what’s the big deal? Forget 10X, Huang claimed that the computing power on Nvidia’s chips has shot up by 1,000X in the past 8 years. That is a mind-boggling leap in computing power.

Here’s what else you need to know:

  • Nvidia’s new tech will help AI models reach 10 trillion parameters — leagues above OpenAI GPT-3’s 175 billion.

  • Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure are some of the platforms that have already signed up for the new tech.

  • Nvidia announced Project GR00T, a new initiative to “create a general-purpose foundation model for humanoid robot learning.”

  • The company also launched NIM, a software platform that aims to make it easier to deploy AI models into production.

The world’s top AI researchers and investors are stopping by the conference this week, including all eight authors of the groundbreaking Transformer paper that launched the generative AI boom in 2018. This is just the kickoff of what will likely prove to be a long announcement season, with Google, OpenAI, and Apple trying to one-up each other with their own AI releases.

AI AT WORK

How to drive more sales by generating customer insights with AI

Making sense of customer behavior across multiple touch points can be close to impossible, especially when multiple channels and team members are involved in the process.

But thanks to AI, we can now take data from multiple touch points and stakeholders and understand what’s working — and what’s not. Here’s how to auto-fill your CRM after customer conversations:

  • Go to Attention’s website and sign up. It’s an AI platform for customer analysis.

  • Once you’re in, connect your CRM (it works with any CRM).

  • Specify the fields and properties you want to auto-populate.

  • Attention will record or import your calls, and capture whatever is most important to you, updating your CRM as soon as your call ends.

You can aggregate all your customer conversations using this process and then generate insights to identify gaps and understand how you can improve your sales processes.

AI-POWERED TUNES

How AI is transforming the music industry

Imagine singing along to your new favorite song only to learn that it was created with AI. To some musicians’ horror  — and to others’ astonishment — a new startup called Suno AI is trying to make convincing, AI-generated songs a reality.

The barriers to recording music are changing:

  • Before, you had to book time in a studio and hire a team of musicians to record professional-grade music.

  • Then came music software, which allowed songwriters to record albums from their bedrooms.

  • Now, Suno wants to make music recording even more accessible with the help of AI.

How does it work? Compared to text and images, music is incredibly complex and difficult to replicate. “It’s a wave. It’s a continuous signal,” co-founder Mikey Shulman told Rolling Stone. In this case, you type in a prompt and genre, Suno takes care of the music and ChatGPT adds custom lyrics and a title.

What’s the significance? It’s a huge step forward for generative AI. A Rolling Stone reporter was left awe-struck when Suno recently created an eerie track about a sad AI called “Soul Machine” in the style of the Mississippi Blues. The entire process reportedly took about 15 seconds.

What are the ethical implications? Things get more complicated when you introduce real-life artists into the equation. Last year, TikToker ghostwriter977 released an AI-generated collaboration between Drake and The Weeknd. Other recent examples include a Kayne West cover of “Hey There Delilah” and a Freddie Mercury cover of “Thriller.”

Record companies have tried sending out cease and desist letters to ban the practice, but they’re struggling to keep up. And while some musicians are excited by the prospect of AI-created songs, others fear their unique artistry could soon get overshadowed.
