Groq is the lightening fast innovation that could give ChatGPT a run for its money

While others are trying to get ahead by designing better AI models, a relatively unknown startup called Groq has surprised everyone by designing an AI chip that allegedly runs a lot faster than anything else out there.

Groq (not to be confused with Elon Musk’s Grok) is a new type of processor that can run applications like AI models at supposedly lightening fast speeds. We couldn’t believe all the hype on social media so we went to the website to give it a spin, and we gotta say, it’s pretty darn fast.

For a rough technical comparison to ChatGPT, Grok generates roughly 500 tokens per second, whereas ChatGPT-3.5 generates around 40 tokens per second. A token is a unit of information, like a word or number, that AI models process to generate responses.

Groq claims that it’s built a “Language Processing Unit,“ which it says is faster than traditional graphics processing units (GPUs) that power most major AI models, like the one behind ChatGPT.

The move could signal a new generation of chips built specifically for AI workloads. GPUs behind many of today’s major AI models were originally built to handle computer graphics and video games. A new generation of chips may prove to be a more powerful alternative.

As the race to capture the rapidly growing generative AI market heats up, Groq’s new chips could spurn new competitors to major model makers like OpenAI, as well as chip manufacturers like Nvidia.

How to summarize podcasts with AI

There are too many good podcasts out there and there simply isn’t enough time to listen to all of them. I spent the last week testing out tools that can summarize all the key points from a podcast in a short 5 minute read.

Here’s the best method I’ve found in my tests:

  • Find an AI tool that can transcribe podcasts. I tried a few tools and found Podcastle to hit the sweet spot between pricing and features.

  • You’ll need an audio file of the podcast to upload and generate a transcript. I used PodBean to search and download podcast episodes.

  • I uploaded the podcast episode to Podcastle and generated a transcript, which I saved as a PDF.

  • I uploaded the PDF of the podcast transcript to ChatGPT to generate a detailed summary with the following prompt:

Prompt: I've uploaded the transcript for a podcast episode. Generate a summary of the podcast in the following format:

- Create a separate section for each question.
- For each section, summarize the key points from the answers as bullet points.
- Take your time and do it thoroughly. Be very detailed in your answers and do not skip any key points.

And there you have it! You can also ask ChatGPT to convert the summary into a PDF if you want to download and read it later.

Once I figured it out, it took me about 30 minutes to convert 5 podcast episodes totalling 8 hours of listening time into 1 page summaries for each episode.

Note: You can also find transcripts for some podcasts directly from their website, which makes the process a lot faster.

There are some AI tools that offer podcast summarization directly without going through the process above. Unfortunately, I found the quality and accuracy of the summaries to be disappointing.

CHART

Bloomberg Intelligence forecast for generative AI revenue growth

According to a report published last year, Bloomberg Intelligence forecasts the generative AI market to soar to $1.3 Trillion in revenue by 2032. The report expects infrastructure needed to train AI models to be the biggest driver of the revenue growth, followed by AI-assisted digital ads and AI servers.

ElevenLabs announces “AI Sound Effects“ that will add sounds to videos

Source: ElevenLabs

Last week we told you about the mind-blowing new AI model from OpenAI that generates videos. But there’s a catch: the videos don’t come with audio. OpenAI’s new video model is limited to just video — which means no sound.

ElevenLabs, the AI startup that has raised around $100M in funding from some of the biggest names in Silicon Valley, claims that they have a solution. They’re calling it AI Sound Effects (not the most original name, we’ll admit) and it will generate sounds for videos based on prompts that you give it.

ElevenLabs said they’ll be announcing the official release date soon, and shared some samples of the Sounds Effects features in a video here.
