OpenAI relaxes ChatGPT rules for verified users

1. OpenAI to relax ChatGPT restrictions and permit adult content: The company will lift its adult content restrictions for verified users starting December. The move follows the company’s “treat adults like adults” policy, combined with tools that will detect mental distress, and guidance from an AI well-being advisory council. OpenAI claims safeguards are in place to mitigate serious mental health issues, which they argue makes the platform safe for mature conversations.

2. Google rolls out new AI-powered features across its products: Search now offers “Hide sponsored results,” as well as AI Overviews for instant summaries. Gmail’s Gemini-powered assistant suggests meeting times based on availability and email context. Workspace is getting Nano Banana for image editing, NotebookLM now supports micro-videos, and Meet gets virtual makeup filters that stay put during calls.

3. OpenAI plots bold revenue moves to fund $1T AI vision: The ChatGPT maker is reportedly rolling out a five-year business plan to manage over $1T in AI investments. The company aims to expand revenue streams through government and enterprise deals, AI shopping tools, video service Sora, AI agents, and consumer hardware designed with Jony Ive. Partnerships with AMD, Nvidia, Oracle, and Broadcom provide compute capacity, while the Stargate data center initiative adds infrastructure support.
