TODAY IN AI
1. Perplexity launches Computer, a new general purpose digital worker that leverages 19 different AI models: Computer is Perplexity’s new multi-model AI system that can run entire projects from start to finish. The tool breaks down complex projects into subtasks, and then routes each task to one of 19 different models that’s best suited for for that task. Perplexity claims that Computer can run for hours or even months, handling everything from competitor analysis reports to full app builds. Available now on web for Max subscribers, with Pro and Enterprise access coming soon. Watch Perplexity Computer in action.
2. Cowork now lets you schedule tasks for the future: On the heels of a major product update yesterday, Cowork got a fresh capability: scheduled tasks. The agentic work tool now lets you create recurring automations for repetitive tasks, such as sending Slack messages, drafting and sending social posts, or updating a list of deliverables. Just type /schedule in any Cowork task to set it up — tasks run automatically on your chosen cadence as long as the Claude Desktop app is open. Watch scheduled tasks in action (1.5M views).
3. Google infuses agentic features into Gemini and Opal: The search giant revealed two major AI updates this week. Gemini on Android can now autonomously complete multi-step tasks inside third-party apps — like booking an Uber or ordering DoorDash. The feature is rolling out in beta mode on the Pixel 10 and Samsung Galaxy S26. Google Labs also added a new agent step to Opal, its no-code mini-app builder. The agent analyzes your goal, determines the best approach, and automatically calls the right tools to complete the task. Watch Opal in action or try it here.

FROM THE FRONTIER
When it comes to war — AI chooses nukes 95% of the time

Made with Midjourney
War and AI. In the 1983 sci-fi film WarGames, a military supercomputer — convinced it’s playing a game — prepares to launch a real-world nuclear strike. Only after cycling through every scenario does the machine arrive at its famous conclusion: "Everyone loses in war. The only winning move is not to play." Forty-three years later, AI just reached the opposite conclusion.
Going nuclear. Researcher Kenneth Payne at King's College London pitted three leading AI models (GPT-5.2, Claude Sonnet 4, and Gemini 3 Flash) against each other in 21 simulated war games. The models played 329 turns and produced roughly 780,000 words defending their decisions. In 95% of the games, at least one model deployed a tactical nuclear weapon — and no model ever chose to surrender.
The timing is especially relevant. Anthropic and the Pentagon are locked in a high-stakes standoff. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wants to use Claude for all legal military purposes — notably including mass surveillance and autonomous weapons. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has pushed back, saying that AI isn’t reliable enough to operate weapons without human oversight.
The big picture. It’s likely inevitable that AI will play some type of role in war. The question is: how much autonomy will we give it? This negotiation between the Pentagon and Anthropic will help answer that question — and the deal is set to be finalized by Friday.
